How Often Should You Visit a Dentist?

The 6-month rule isn't for everyone. Here's how to figure out the right check-up schedule for your specific mouth.

The default: every 6 months

For most adults with healthy teeth and gums, a check-up and professional cleaning every 6 months is the sweet spot for early problem detection and stain/tartar control.

Every 3 months if...

You have a history of periodontitis, uncontrolled diabetes, orthodontic braces or heavy tartar buildup.

Every 12 months if...

You have exceptional oral hygiene, no restorations, no gum issues and low staining habits — cleared by your dentist for extended intervals.
