Dental Implant Recovery: A 6-Week Guide

Week-by-week — what to eat, what to avoid, when to worry, and when to expect full comfort. A dentist's honest recovery timeline.

Day 1–2

Ice pack 20 min on / 20 min off. Soft cool foods only. Prescribed painkillers usually needed only for 24–48 hours.

Day 3–7

Swelling peaks day 2–3 then drops. Warm salt-water rinses from day 2. Back to normal soft diet on opposite side of the mouth.

Week 2–4

Sutures removed at day 7. Silent healing phase — no restrictions on daily activity. Avoid the implant side for hard/chewy foods.

Month 2–4

Osseointegration progresses. Follow-up X-ray at 3 months to confirm healing, then final crown scan.
